Running the disk cleaner under Clean Up and Repair …

found 23 additional junk files not cleaned by CCleaner, which I ran just before testing WinUtilities clean up capabilities.

Running the Registry Cleaner produced the following – 364 errors not found by CCleaner.

Because I’m a “just in case” kind of guy, I created a restore point automatically before executing the “clean” command.

One of the built-in tools, found under the application’s Privacy and Security tab, provides a security rating on both running processes and services. This tool is a real bonus for security conscious users.

Cleanup Your Hard Drive With Auslogics Duplicate File Finder

image Not all of us practice good file management, so it’s easy for duplicate files to build up on a Hard Drive. Back in the days of small Hard Drives, this could be a major problem.

My first Hard Drive for example, was a whooping 10 Megabytes – yes Megabytes, not Gigabytes! Even at a cost of $800, I was thrilled to have a hard Drive in my machine. I can tell you though, that I sure learned good file management practices.

With today’s comparably huge Hard Drives, duplicate files obviously are less of a problem. But, they can still be a problem nonetheless. The way most of us use our PCs today virtually guarantees most of us have a bag full of duplicate files. And who needs 2,3,4, or 5 duplicates of photos, music or documents? Even on a big drive they take up valuable space.

There is an old truism in computing that essentially states; you will fill all available space on your HD, no matter how big it is. Remember when a 60 Gb drive was fairly typical? Today, I wouldn’t even have a partition that small!

It’s relatively easy to locate and delete duplicate files, and reclaim wasted disk space, by running a duplicate file finder. Auslogics provides a free application to do just this called, oddly enough – Auslogics Duplicate File Finder.

The following graphics, from a quick run through (less than a minute), on one of my test systems, illustrates just how easy this small application is to use, and how efficient it can be.

Fast facts:

Duplicate files not only waste your hard disk space but also may cause system slowdowns. By deleting duplicate files you can reduce time needed to defragment your hard drives and minimize time used by antivirus to scan your computer.

Media files collections, such as music, video, images and photos are often the source of duplicate files. If you have a music collection of several hundred or even thousands mp3-files, you may want to delete identical tracks.

Auslogics Duplicate File Finder uses the MD5 search engine which allows you to find duplicate files by content, regardless of other match criteria. This is helpful, for example, when two identical mp3 tracks, or video files, have different names.

System Requirements: Windows 7/Vista/2008/XP/2003 (32-bit and 64-bit supported)
