Download Free SpyShelter Anti-Keylogger

image A software Keylogger, or system monitor, is a small program (not always malware, I should point out), that monitors every keystroke a user types on a computer’s keyboard.

Keyloggers are a particularly sinister type of malware, and are notorious for disabling Firewalls and anti-malware tools. This is a type of malware that I pay particular attention to, and make a special effort to guard against.

Since I test a lot of applications, I am continually amazed at the number of programs that request access to my keyboard, and screen, during installation. Unless there are valid reasons for this type of access, I don’t allow it. Surprisingly, in most cases the application installs correctly. Curious!

Regular reader Charles L. recently gave me a great tip on a freeware anti-logger application – SpyShelter Personal, which is also available in a paid version, SpyShelter premium.

SpyShelter is an anti-keylogging, anti-spyware program that protects your data from Keylogging and spy programs: known, unknown, and under-development.

It detects and block dangerous and malicious programs, to help ensure that your data cannot be stolen by cyber criminals.

The free version includes the following features:

  • System protection (HIPS)
  • Anti keylogger
  • AntiScreenCapture
  • AntiClipboardCapture

Setup is a snap, since the user interface follows the familiar tabbed menu system.

There are additional remedies for this type of malware threat, including –

SnoopFree Privacy Shield (free):

SnoopFree Privacy Shield (which I’ve been running for years), is a free application that guards your keyboard, screen, and open windows from all such spy software.

It makes it virtually impossible for any spy program to work on your computer since SnoopFree Privacy Shield’s protection works against spy software in real time. Unfortunately, this application works on Windows XP only.

Zemana AntiLogger (commercial):

Since my personal home machines now run on Windows 7, I can no longer protect against Keyloggers using SnoopFree Privacy Shield, so I had to find an alternative. Zemana AntiLogger, is a competitively priced anti-keylogger application that I have come to rely on since I installed it 6 months ago.

This is an impressive application, particularly the system defense function which intercepts proposed changes to system files NOT picked up by other security applications on my systems.

Since I use a Webcam extensively for communicating, the active Webcam protection offered by Zemana AntiLogger, is of special importance to me.

Zemana AntiLogger is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Win 7.

This application is not freeware, but is very well priced at $34.00 USD. You can download a 15 day trial version at: Zemana

We’re now half way through 2010, and as predicted, this year has being a banner year for cyber-criminals. Being prepared and being aware, while not a panacea, will continue to be a key element in mitigating risk exposure. If Keylogger protection is a concern, you should consider adding an anti-logger application to your security toolbox.

  1. Hi Bill,

This program looked really interesting, so I downloaded it. When I scanned it with my antivirus, it was instantly quarantined, without me being able to install it. Said it had a Trojan. I tried it three times and all three times it wouldn’t let it run. It’s a pity, it looks a great program. Just thought I’d share my experience.

    • Hi Paul,

I can assure you it’s not a Trojan, but I’m not totally surprised that your AV might think so. An application that exhibits Trojan like behaviour, and antloggers do, can be picked up by an AV as such.

There are things you can do: run your AV and remove the installer from quarantine; run your AV and on the exclusion/exception screen allow “setupfree.exe” to run from your Download folder; or, turn off your AV prior to the install.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

BTW, the weather up here could be a little better – mild but heavy overcast.

      Best,

      Bill

  2. Thanks for the information, Bill. I really wanted to use this program. I’ll do what you suggest.

PS. It’s pouring with rain here now lol.

    Hey Bill,

Thanks for a doing a review on this. Although I emailed you about it. I have been hesitant to install it until somebody like yourself tested the waters first. 🙂

I think now is a good time to finally install it.

    Thanks Bill

Thanks for the write-up, Bill. I was lucky enough to get a licence for Zemana in their last of their promos. It’s a good product and I’m very happy with it. It’s a pity that SnoopFree Privacy Shield hasn’t be updated to work with Vista or Win 7. So you happen to know if the developer is planning to do so? I’d love to be able to use it on Win 7.

    • Hi Siam,

No, the developer of SnoopFree Privacy Shield has no plans to update the application. I agree with you though – I’d like to see a Vista/Win 7 version.

      Good to hear from you.

      Bill

    Hey Bill,
Its a nice app. I used to use it..
So bad the free version doesn’t support 64bit systems… I see no point in it. They’ve already excluded some other features..

    • Hey Ranjan,

I appreciate your opinion, but I’m afraid you’re seeing the glass half empty. Any increase in security potential is positive for the user. As for the developer excluding some features – there’s nothing unusual in this; the paid version should have addition features not available in the freeware version.

BTW, the Win 7 edition is natively x64 compatible.

    Hey Bill,
I meant to say that wouldn’t it be better if they could add support for x64 platform in the free version as well so that they may better decide whether to upgrade to the pro version or not…. Do you think that people will switch to x86 from x64 just to test an app..?
PS: I mean no offense to anyone.. I’m just saying what i think…

    • Hey Ranjan,

Your opinion is valuable, so no need to think you’ve upset anyone. The thing about opinions is – there will always be someone who will not agree with a specific opinion. That’s also valuable. The world would be a pretty boring place if we all thought the same way.

To answer your question – no, I don’t think a user will switch to x86 from x64, or vice versa, just to test an app. I sure wouldn’t. The adoption of x64 systems has a long way to go though, and the lack of available software is part of this issue.

    Hi Bill,
I am interested in downloading Free SpyShelter Anti-Keylogger since it has the functionality of AntiClipboardCapture which SnoopFree Privacy Shield 1.07 does not have.

I already have SnoopFree Privacy Shield 1.07. If I download Free SpyShelter Anti-Keylogger will it clash with SnoopFree Privacy Shield 1.07. Kindly let me know

    Ramesh

    • Hey Ramesh,

In normal circumstance you wouldn’t run 2 Antiloggers at the same time. There is nothing to be gained, and the potential for conflict is substantial.

I can’t answer your question more directly, since it would be redundant to test for conflict between 2 applications that perform essentially the same function.
