A lost admin password can definitely help one to define the words “frustrated”, and “helpless”. Losing your password can end up with you being locked out of your own machine, and what can be more frustrating than that?
You would think that it would be virtually impossible to forget your Logon password; but it happens more frequently than you might think. I have several friends who rarely use their computers, and sure enough I got a call last week from one of those friends who had forgotten her Logon password.

But I generally prefer (and advise) recovering over reseting. It’s way safer to retrieve and crack hash than making changes to SAM.
it’s nice to have a simple fix if it happens. i forgot my bank password which i refuse to write anywhere. i hadn’t logged in for awhile and wa-la, i forgot it.
